  • Newsflash: I suck at blogging

    Sunday, October 1, 2017

So I tried to make this an active blog two years ago and failed miserably.

The closest thing to one is probably my Instagram, so please follow me if you want to know what I’m working on and/or where I’m at in the world.

Professionally, you can check out my work with my company, Indie Pop Films, on our website.

Like most folks, I’ve also got a Twitter and a Facebook.

Hope to see you on one of those things, if not in person.

  • Yes, I am a part of “The Death of Superman Lives; What Happened?”

    Wednesday, July 8, 2015

    Heylow party people,

I have noticed that I have an unfortunate habit of posting on this website once every year or two. I know it’s dumb, but juggling all types of social media — facebook, twitter, tumblr, instagram, linkdin, IT’S TOO MUCH TO HANDLE!!! So I just end up cybernetically paralyzed and end up doing nothing.

But here I am again, two years later, re-learning WordPress so I can update this page about my career.

I have spent the last 9 months in Los Angeles editing my first documentary, THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN LIVES; WHAT HAPPENED?. It’s not my first brush with docu-filmmaking, as I directed the first season of Project Runway Philippines and have done a few mini-docs, like the one for Slamdance (see previous post). But this is the first full-length feature doc I’ve now worked on, AND I got to edit Tim Burton and Kevin Smith, which is a DAMN FINE PLEASURE.

The first thing I did was to edit the FIRST OFFICIAL TRAILER, which dropped during San Diego Comic Con 2014. I then proceeded to edit the film, with the assembly changing every time we managed to land another amazing interview. Most notable were the additions of Dan Gilroy (the third and last scriptwriter and also the writer-director of the Academy Award-nominated Nightcrawler, a favorite of mine) and Jon Peters, the producer of Batman and Rain Man (among a hundred other films). With this project, I got to witness hundreds of buried concept artworks and costume tests, and it was a wonderful peek into the development process (read: hell) of Hollywood superhero blockbuster films.

We released the FINAL TRAILER a few months ago, right before the world premiere on April 30th at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. Many of the Superman Lives production crew were in attendance, such as Production Designer Rick Heinrichs, 2nd scriptwriter Wesley Strick, Special Effects head Steve Johnson, Unit Production Manager Ronald D. Smith, Art Director Bill Boes, and concept artist Michael Anthony Jackson. On May 2nd, 1st Superman Lives scriptwriter Kevin Smith came over to watch the film and do our Q&A, and it was almost 2 HOURS (this is one of our special features on the Blu-Ray).

So now, on July 9th, we’re about to launch the worldwide release of our VOD at San Diego Comic Con. It comes full circle from our trailer release last year. Around the world, you can buy the film at our OFFICIAL WEBSITE. Our Blu-Ray has a historically overwhelming 10 hours of BONUS FEATURES, which we edited in the last few weeks. Our DVD has over 4 hours of stuff, so it’s not a bad buy either! We’ll be in BOOTH 3915, selling Blu-Rays, DVDs, posters, and other Comic Con-exclusive merch! I’ll even bring an ANG NAWAWALA (WHAT ISN’T THERE) DVD or two for shits and giggles.

We even released the FIRST TEN MINUTES of the film on Youtube, out of the goodness of our hearts. If you like what you see, please buy the film. We’re a small production team of 5 people and every penny we make goes into our livelihoods.

Here’s a Comic Con-exclusive TDOSLWH poster by the astounding Nick Runge!

    Hey there, humans!

This site has been hibernating for 3 years. I didn’t know how to use WordPress, so this was like a time capsule, waiting to be cracked. I finally am learning the damn thing, so please expect there to be blog entries, new works, and just more schtuffs in general!

What has happened in 3 years? Well, I made my first feature film, Ang Nawawala, and traveled with it. I am currently living in Los Angeles, writing my next feature and looking for awesome stuff to do in the in-between.

I’ve just edited a new DEMO REEL

If you’ve never seen it before, give it a whirl! We shot all 15 episodes in 2008 and worked our arses off on it for a year and a half.

I will be featuring different works here on the News section, and talk about it a bit — either behind the scenes or conceptualization stuff.

Hope you guys visit here often! I will try my bestest in making this a cool spot.

By the by, please LIKE What Isn’t There (Ang Nawawala) on Facebook, so you can find out when’s our next screening or when we’re going to FINALLY release a DVD! Hahaha

This month, I directed two short film-commercials for the GMA-7/Q channel Short Film Festival 2010, one for Maggi Magic Sarap and the other for Lactum. I hope you get to catch it on the telly this month!

  • New York Is My Boyfriend

    Sunday, November 21, 2010

On the 12th of November, I screened the FINAL EDIT of “New York Is My Boyfriend,” along with the FINAL EDIT of “Si Dexter Calliope At Ang Ibong Adarna,” in Mogwai, along with Arnold Arre’s short film, “Kaye For Komiks.” It was an intimate gathering of people, where Kelvin Yu, star and title character of “Dexter Calliope,” saw the film for the first time.

    Saturday, October 16, 2010

For the first time in five years, I have made a personal short film, and it’s about my longtime relationship with New York City, combining footage I have been shooting there for the last 8 years. I screened the first cut of it at the Ayala Museum on the 2nd of October for New Slang’s Grade School For Yuppies event. Their theme this month was Metrophilia: Crushes On Cities.

  • Appebon Kid TVC

    Monday, August 16, 2010

I’ve always wanted to play around with the Sandwich “Sugod” multi-dolly set-up again, so I got to do so in this Appebon Kid commercial. It was a mixture of singing, dancing, food styling, child wrangling, and dolly choreography, so it was a very enjoyable challenge.

  • Freshman Masculine Wash

    Wednesday, July 7, 2010

This may be, by far, the most fun commercial I have shot so far, since the product is a MASCULINE WASH. Yes, you heard me. It is an intimate wash for a guy’s naughty parts. How awesome is that? Another great thing about this process was that I got to finally got to work hands-on with the genius duo of Jazz Nicolas and Mikey Amistoso, who scored the commercial. We just spent most of the Liquidpost studio hours giggling as we were working.
